What affects the price of mobile mechanic work

  • Parts. Oil type, brake pad quality and battery size can change the price by $50 or more.
  • Vehicle. Trucks and SUVs need more oil, bigger pads and heavier batteries.
  • Convenience. Mobile mechanics come to you, which often costs a little more than a shop.
  • Add-ons. Rotors, wiper blades and filters are usually extra.

The low end of the range is a newer mobile mechanic at about $50 an hour. The high end is an experienced pro at about $95 an hour who travels to you. Many mobile mechanics have a minimum charge of around $50. Prices are higher in big cities.

Common questions

Is a mobile mechanic more expensive than a shop?

Often about the same for simple jobs. You save the trip and the wait, and many mobile mechanics have lower overhead.

Can I supply my own parts?

Some mechanics allow it and charge labor only, but they usually won't warranty parts they didn't provide.
