What affects the price of dent repair
- Size. A dime-sized ding takes minutes. A baseball-sized dent can take a couple of hours.
- Number of dents. The first dent costs the most. Each extra dent on the same visit usually costs less.
- Location. Dents on body lines, panel edges or braced areas are harder to reach and slower.
- Hail. Hail jobs are priced by how many dents are on each panel and how big they are.
- Paint. If the paint is cracked or chipped, PDR alone will not fix it, and a body shop may be needed.
The low end of the range is a newer dent technician at about $75 an hour. The high end is an experienced pro at about $125 an hour who travels to you. Many dent technicians have a minimum charge of around $100. Prices are higher in big cities.
Common questions
What is paintless dent repair?
A technician uses metal rods and glue tabs to slowly push or pull the dent back into shape. The factory paint stays on, so there is no filler, sanding or repainting.
Does insurance pay for hail damage?
If you have comprehensive coverage, hail damage is usually covered after your deductible. Many insurers work with PDR shops for hail repair, so ask your agent before you book.

How the prices are worked out
Each price is your hourly rate times the typical time for that job, plus supplies and driving, plus your overhead and profit, rounded up to the nearest $5. Small jobs use a $100 minimum. If you work faster or slower than the times shown, adjust your hourly rate.
Before you post prices, check two or three local dent technicians on Google or Facebook. If you're well below them, you can probably charge more.
